LED-BASED EDGE-LIGHTING FOR LCD TVs, WHITE LED BACKLIGHT FOR 7” TFT LCDs & SINGLE-LED BACKLIGHT MODULES FOR WIDE RANGE OF DISPLAYS HIGHLIGHT GLOBAL LIGHTING TECHNOLOGIES’ EXHIBIT AT SID 2006

San Francisco, June 5, 2006 – Global Lighting Technologies (GLT), Inc. will demonstrating a working prototype of a new modular LED-based edge-lighting assembly for large-screen LCD TVs at Booth 626.

GLT’s patented MicroLens™ light guides, combined with the PhlatLight™ chipset technology from Luminus Devices, Inc., enable large-size LCD panels to be edge-lit, as opposed to direct backlighting. The result is dramatically reduced LED count and simplified color and thermal management compared to conventional LED-based backlighting solutions.

GLT will also be exhibiting a new family of single-LED molded light guides that can be designed in sizes from 0.24” diagonal to 15.4” diagonal to provide single LED monochrome, bi-color or tri-color backlights. These MicroLens™ molded light guide backlights utilize the most advanced and efficient light extraction technology, providing a unique "transition" area that spreads the light uniformly, extracting light precisely at each point across the panel.

MicroLens™ light guides are developed in a very thin package, with mechanical holding features that can be designed into the backlight, or on a custom-designed backlight frame. This allows chip-on-glass (COG) or chip-on-flex (COF) LCDs or the entire display assembly to be easily mounted into the host application. This can reduce part count and assembly and material costs.

The company will also be showing a new white LED backlight assembly for 7" TFT LCDs that utilizes the company’s patented MicroLens™ molded light guide technology to provide high brightness with fewer LEDs, reducing part count and cost.
