Boston, May 20, 2002 – Global Lighting Technologies (GLT), Inc., Brecksville, OH, originator of the patented SolidState™ and MicroLens™ molded light guide backlighting technologies for backlighting information displays, will be exhibiting a range of new high-efficiency, low-cost backlighting solutions at SID (Society for Information Display) 2002, May 21-23, at Booth #3503.
On display will be a 15" flat panel desktop monitor equipped with GLT's new SolidState™ 15-inch diagonal backlight assembly designed for TFT (thin film transistor) LCDs and featuring a backlighting panel incorporating MicroLens™ technology, through which light extraction features are precision-molded into the panel to maximize lighting efficiency and minimize cost.
Also shown will be a PDA utilizing GLT's molded-in LEDs on flex circuits, a patented process that allows surface-mount LEDs to be used in thinner panel applications, maximizing efficiency and providing a plug-in solution. "Molded-in LEDs can yield an increase in brightness of as much as 15-20%," said David DeAgazio, Director of Sales Worldwide for GLT. "We can provide plastic backlights as thin as 0.5 mm for cell phones and 0.6 mm for PDAs. Thicknesses of 1.0 mm are becoming routine for us."
DeAgazio added that GLT's manufacturing facilities in Taipei, Taiwan and Suzhou and Shanghai, China, give the company's customers a competitive edge in getting cost-efficient backlights with fast delivery for applications from cell phones to desktop monitors.
GLT will also be demonstrating its new lighting for flat-bed scanners that utilize MicroLens™ technology to provide a cost-effective alternative to the higher-cost lighting currently in use throughout the industry.
Other products on exhibit at the GLT booth showing GLT backlighting products in actual use will include Fluke meters, ADT home security monitors, Honeywell thermostats, Mitel and Motorola cell phones, and more.
