MicroLens™ light extraction technology
that provides up to 180,000 unique shapes per sq. in. MicroLens™
light extraction features are molded into both the top and bottom
surface of the light guide. These MicroLenses result in a reflective
matrix that directs light across the surface of the display in
a very efficient and consistent manner.

Other light extraction technologies
– printed, chemical or laser etched and V-groove –
provide some of the benefits of MicroLens™, but each has
limitations.
MicroLens™ VS OTHER LIGHT EXTRACTION TECHNOLOGIES
DIFFUSE LIGHT EXTRACTION
TECHNOLOGY -- printed, chemical or laser etched
- Light is scattered in all directions
(360 degrees)
- Brightness is low to medium for most
applications
- Output angles cannot be controlled
- Non-transparent dots block a significant
portion of light that is scattered downward from reflecting
back through the panel and exiting the top surface

SPECULAR LIGHT EXTRACTION
TECHNOLOGY
V-GROOVE
Benefit: High brightness
Limitation: 2-D uniformity correction not possible

| SPECULAR
LIGHT EXTRACTION TECHNOLOGY
MicroLens™
Benefits:
- 2-D uniformity corrections are possible
- High brightness
- Optical features are transparent
- Normal reflection and transmission percentages are
roughly 60% and 40% respectively
- Light is reflected and transmitted from the optical
features in a specular manner
- The angles at which light is emitted from the light
guide can be controlled
